Some answers for common questions when browsing our online eCats.

Why is my eCat not displaying correctly?
The most common cause for your eCat not displaying correctly is that you may not have the Flash Player Installed – download it for free here. Another common problem may be that your browser doesn’t support Javascript – to enable it:

Internet Explorer 6 or 7
1. Click the Tools menu
2. Select Internet Options
3. Click the Security tab
4. Click the Custom Level button
5. Scroll down until you see the Scripting section. Select the Enable radio button for Active Scripting
6. Click the OK button
7. Click the Yes button in the confirmation window

Firefox 2 or 3
1. Click the Tools menu
2. Select Options
3. Click the Contents tab
4. Select the 'Enable JavaScript' checkbox
5. Click the OK button

Safari 2 or 3
1. Click the Safari menu
2. Select Preferences
3. Click the Security tab
4. Select the Enable JavaScript checkbox

How do I install the Flash Player?
The download and install from the Adobe website should be straight forward. However, if you do have problems installing the Flash Player, follow the Adobe troubleshooting steps here (Windows) or here (Mac). If one step does not correct the problem, move onto the next step.

How do I clear my cache?
To remove old versions of the eCatalogue you can clear your browser cache as follows:

Internet Explorer 6 or 7
From the menu, select Tools, Internet Options, General, Temporary Internet Files - "Delete Files" button

Firefox 2 or 3
From the menu, select Firefox, Preferences, Advanced, Network, "Clear Now" button

Safari 2 or 3
From the menu, select Safari, Empty Cache option

The Adobe Flash Player cache can also be cleared by using Adobe's Flash Manager here. Highlight the website address for your eCatalogue, then click the Delete button.

I have installed Flash Player but still don't see any Flash content e.g. video. What is wrong?
The most common cause of Flash movies failing to display is because pop-ups are blocked – check that pop-ups are enabled in your browser for your eCat website address.

How do I turn the pages?
You can turn the pages either by grabbing any corner of a page and then dragging the mouse, or by clicking on any corner. Alternatively you can flip pages using the right and left arrows on the navigation bar.

Why is the text too small to read easily?
Click the magnifying glass icon to zoom in and out by 200%. When zoomed in, the mouse cursor becomes a 'hand', which can be used to move the pages around on the screen. The slider bar at the top left of the Zoom screen lets you change the magnification level.

What are Thumbnails?
Thumbnails are a horizontal sliding view of all the pages in the eCat to help you navigate.

What are Bookmarks?
Bookmarks let you add your own colour coded tabs to the eCat with optional personal notes, to highlight pages of particular interest.

How do I use the Bookmarks?
Click Add Bookmark to create a new one. Edit the caption, add your personal notes, select the screen icon to change the bookmark colour, then click save.

How do I play a video in the publication?
Any picture which has the word 'VIDEO' on it is actually a short video. Simply click on the flashing blue button at the bottom of the picture to play it. The system will pre-load 30% of the video before playback commences.
Adobe provide more information about Flash movies not appearing after installing the Flash Player here.

How do I play sound or hear speech?
If you see a grey box on certain pages (as shown) click on the blue flashing triangle to hear the sound file.

The email and web hyperlinks are not highlighted, do they work?
Yes, any web or email address on any page will function if you click on it. On occasion, if the link is close to the outside edge of a page, you may need to bring your mouse pointer slightly in towards the centre to stop the system attempting to flip onto the next page.
